Matthew Stephen Ward is a VIDA's familiar face. After having visited the festival in its first edition and having conquered the audience with his warm performance, the singer-songwriter from Portland will return to Barcelona next Friday May 18th to give a solo concert in La Nau venue (C / Àlaba 30, Barcelona ). All this thanks to Vida On The Road, an initiative of the festival that aims to bring different artists to the main national cities, as it happened last November with Warhaus.
After rising as one of the most famous North American folk singer-songwriters with exquisite albums such as Transfiguration Of Vincent (Merge Records, 2003) or Post-War (Merge Records, 2006), M. Ward lands in Barcelona with More Rain (Merge Records, 2016) as his last studio album.
Tickets are already available at the price of 20€ through VIDA's website and Ticketmaster platform.
Save the date! Next Thursday April 12th we will celebrate VIDA 2018 fifth launch party at 'Antiga Fàbrica d'Estrella Damm' (Roselló 515, Barcelona) with the performances of The Clientele and Xavier Calvet.
Almost a decade after his last album, the glorious “Bonfires On The Heath” (2009), The Clientele went back the past year with a simple but elegant and charismatic “Music for the Age of Miracles” (2017). A fifth album where the british band explores a crystalline and classical pop of clear literary vocations. On the other hand, Xavier Calvet —also known for being the leader of the punk rock band Bullitt— will take advantage of the occasion to perform live his first solo album “Firebird” (2017). A luminous album that evokes to the 'road trip' and to the own landscapes of the Americana.
The entrance, as usual, will be free with VIDA 2018 4-day pass, and you can invite a person to go with you!

This year, which will take place from June 28th to July 1st in Vilanova i la Geltrú, wants to become a celebration of its five-year career with an exquisite and eclectic line-up that stands out both for the presence of great-known artists as well as promising emerging groups.
The festival today confirms more than 30 new artists to its line-up. A wide range of confirmations, among which stand out names such as Of Montreal, Elvis Perkins, Josh Rouse, Hookworms, DBFC, Za !, Novedades Carminha, Bart Davenport, Perro and Great News - among many others. The line-up will feature new names that will be confirmed in the next Press Conference in Madrid.
Rey Lobo are the new band confirmed for VIDA's 5th anniversary. A line-up that, with this last incorporation, stays like this: Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Iron & Wine, Los Planetas, Calexico, Nick Mulvey, Curtis Harding, Joe Crepúsculo, Maga, Núria Graham, El Petit de Cal Eril, Oso Leone, La Plata, Vulk, Rey Lobo and Medalla. This year's edition will take place from June 28th till July 1st in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
Based in Murcia, Rey Lobo is the project lead by Victor Hernández. A young singer-songwriter that, after finishing his film studies in Barcelona, returned to his hometown to record his debut EP Nonduermas, an album recorded and produced by himself and mastered in AMA studios by Antonio Navarro that explores a delicate experimental pop similar to artists like Sufjan Stevens or Bon Iver. Despite their short trajectory, the band have received their first recognitions winning Canción de Autor award at CreaMurcia 2017 contest Songwriter contest, being part of the projecte VIDA BANDS and, later, becoming the opening act for Xoel López in their performances at Room Festival. They will be on March 1st in Sala Riviera (Madrid) and March 24th in Sala Razzmatazz (Barcelona).
Next Thursday February 15th we will celebrate VIDA 2018 fourth launch party at Antiga Fàbrica d'Estrella Damm (Roselló 515, Barcelona) with the performances of El Petit de Cal Eril and The Wheels. Before the performances, we will present VIDA's 5th anniversary line-up at the press conference that will start at 18:00.
Two years after the release of the magical and evocative album "La Força" (Bankrobber, 2016), El Petit de Cal Eril presents "Δ" (Bankrobber, 2018). An album recorded in 3 different contexts - Guissona, Garrotxa and Brooklyn - where Joan Pons continues to draw the lines of his delicate and vital universe influenced by the traditional song, acoustic folk and the psychedelia.
The young Mallorcan band The Wheels released their first album Great Frustrations (Self-edited, 2014) in 2014. A surprising album that already drew the path of the group: a psychedelic pop of hypnotic rhythms influenced by the sound of emblematic groups like The Beatles, The Doors or Pink Floyd. A fresh and promising proposal that is consolidated with their second album The Year of the Monkey (Espora Records, 2017).
The entrance, as usual, will be free with VIDA 2018 4-day pass, and you can invite a person to go with you!
Los Planetas joins VIDA's 5th anniversary line-up as one of the headliners along with the already confirmed artists Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Nick Mulvey, Curtis Harding, Joe Crepúsculo, Maga, Núria Graham, El Petit de Cal Eril, Oso Leone, La Plata, Vulk and Medalla. This year's edition will take place from June 28th to July 1st in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
Los Planetas, since their appearance in the 90s to date, have created a large number of generational hymns, thus becoming one of the great bands of Spanish pop. After seven years of silence, the formation from Granada lead by Jota returns to the stage with Zona Temporalmente Autónoma, an album that demonstrates the great state of shape of the band and that shows a remarkable renovation in their sound.
Curtis Harding becomes the new confirmation of VIDA's 5th anniversary. Thereby, the American singer-songwriter will share VIDA's 2018 line-up with Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Iron and Wine, Calexico, Nick Mulvey, Joe Crepúsculo, Maga, Núria Graham, El Petit de Cal Eril, Oso Leone, La Plata, Vulk and Medalla. This year, the festival will take place from June 28th to July 1st in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
Since his debut with Soul Power (Burger Records, 2014), Curtis Harding has emerged as one of the most outstanding and surprising artists of the neo-soul genre. A title that he maintains with the release of his second LP Face Your Fear (Anti-, 2017), an album where the singer-songwriter from Michigan shows off a sensual and irresistible soul with elegant textures, exuberant melodies and a warm and charismatic voice.
We close another week of confirmations with Joe Crepúsculo. The Barcelona-base singer will be part of VIDA's 5th anniversary line-up along with the artists already announced Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Nick Mulvey, Oso Leone, Maga, El Petit de Cal Eril, Núria Graham, Medal, La Plata and Vulk.
Joe Crepúsculo, Joël's Iriarte stage name, began his career in 2008 with Supercrepus (Producciones Doradas, 2008) and, since then, he has turned each of his performances into a dance floor due to his magnetic pop based on a surprising voice, brilliant lyrics and lo-fi nuances. A project that emerged with undeniable hits such as 'Mi Fábrica de Baile' and that this year has been renewed with the release of two new albums, Disco Duro (El Volcán Música, 2017) and Las Nanas (El Volcán Música, 2017).
Vulk joins VIDA's 2018 local confirmations of this week. The Bilbao band will be part of the VIDA's 5th anniversary line-up with the already announced Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Nick Mulvey, Oso Leone, El Petit de Cal Eril, Maga, Núria Graham, Medal and La Plata.
The Bilbao-based band Vulk became one of the greatest surprises of 2017 after the release of their LP debut Beat Kamerlanden (Meyo Records - Elsa Records, 2017). A first and magnificent album of a raging post punk and electrifying guitars that blunted with huge hits like "Something Internal" and "Unique Position".
We continue with the round of confirmations this week adding the name of Núria Graham to VIDA's 5th anniversary line-up. A line-up that, with this last confirmation, stays like this: Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Nick Mulvey, Oso Leone, El Petit de Cal Eril, Maga, Medal and La Plata .
With only 16 years old, Núria Graham surprised with her EP debut First Tracks (Self-published, 2013). Since then, the singer-songwriter from Vic has exceeded all expectations becoming one of the most promising local artists. After the release of several albums, her impeccable career continues with Does It Ring a Bell? (El Segell, 2017), a second, mature and solid LP that explores psychedelic sound along with rock, pop and folk.
Maga is the new artist confirmed for VIDA's 5th anniversary line-up. The band will play at the festival along with the artists already confirmed Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Nick Mulvey, Oso Leone, El Petit de Cal Eril, Medalla and La Plata.
Maga debuted with Maga (blanco) (Limbo Starr, 2002) and since then they have risen as one of the most prominent bands of the local indie pop scene. A title that the band lead by Miguel Rivera has earned with the release of five more albums, being Un Salto Horizontal (Warner Music, 2017) its last, where the Sevillian band explores a magical and dreamy pop of vitalist lyrics and radiant melodies.
Oso Leone is the last local band confirmed this week. The Mallorcan-based band will be part of VIDA's 5th anniversary line-up along with the already confirmed Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Nick Mulvey, El Petit de Cal Eril, Medalla and La Plata.
Oso Leone returns after four years since the release of Mokragora (Foehn Records, 2013). Consolidated as one of the most outstanding groups in the Spanish alternative scene, the Mallorcan sextet presents a third album that will be released this 2018 where they promise to expand the electronic and r&b side of their proposal but maintaining the softness and the subtlety of their dazzling sound.
El Petit de Cal Eril is the new band confirmed for VIDA's 5th anniversary. A new name in the line-up that joins the other artists already confirmed: Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Nick Mulvey, Medalla and La Plata.
Two years after the release of the magical and evocative album La Força (Bankrobber, 2016), El Petit de Cal Eril presents Δ (Bankrobber, 2018). An album recorded in 3 different contexts - Guissona, Garrotxa and Brooklyn - where Joan Pons continues to draw the lines of his delicate and vital universe influenced by the traditional song, the acoustic folk and the psychedelia.
